AIP/BIP: Abuse Intervention Program for Men

ICADV_logo_RGB.png

Certified Program

*formerly referred to as Batterers Intervention Program (BIP)*

Per IC 35-50-9-1, the Abuse Intervention Program (AIP) at Waypost Counseling is certified by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV). Our AIP aims to educate individuals on the importance of integrity and other essential skills to improve their relationships with themselves and others. We currently offer classes for adult men.

THE CRITICAL DIFFERENCE

Our Abuse Intervention Program (AIP) differs significantly from anger management. While anger management focuses on identifying and managing feelings of anger, the AIP addresses the dynamics of abusive behavior, specifically power and control.

CURRICULUM

We utilize the Cognitive Accountability Training (CAT) model, which is evidence-based and approved for use by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV). CAT challenges and addresses the abuser's values and beliefs to help them recognize the underlying causes of their abuse. The program teaches healthy, nonviolent behaviors and requires participants to practice these actions each week. The victim's safety and well-being are the underlying purposes of the AIP.

CAT complies with the most current research in evidence-based programming. It effectively addresses all types of abuse, including but not limited to physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, financial abuse, psychological abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse. CAT is a genuinely innovative cognitive approach for educating about abusive behavior.

PROGRAM CERTIFICATION & OVERSIGHT

Our AIP is certified by the ICADV, which helps to ensure that our program follows the standards and protocols set forth by the ICADV and that survivor safety is at the forefront of our AIP sessions.

CONVENIENCE

We offer multiple online AIP sessions in the morning and evening throughout the week, as well as on weekends. What this means for our clients is that if one particular group time is inconvenient, they can attend another scheduled group for that week. For example, if a client typically attends on Saturday mornings but is going out of town for the weekend, they can attend on Monday morning, Wednesday evening, etc. Clients don't even have to let us know which session they're planning to attend each week; they simply show up to the scheduled session that works for them! Having multiple sessions throughout the week and on weekends ensures our clients have the flexibility to fit attending our program into an already busy schedule!

PROGRAM COST

Our standard Abuse Intervention Program is 26 sessions in length. The cost is $80 for the initial program intake session and then $30 per weekly 90-minute session. Participants must attend 1x/week for a minimum of 26 weeks to complete the program.

For questions regarding our Men's Abuse Intervention Program, please contact Dr. Eric L. Davis, Executive Director.

Disclaimer: As with any program, the AIP has limitations and should not be considered a "cure," nor should it be erroneously assumed that the abuse will stop or the abuser will change. Every participant in the program is responsible for their change, and others should examine any improvement carefully.
