Eric L. Davis, DSW, LCSW, LCAC
Executive Director & Co-Owner

Dr. Eric L. Davis is the Executive Director of Waypost Counseling and a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Social Work. With more than 25 years of experience in mental health and addiction treatment, he provides therapy from a holistic perspective, integrating mind, body, and spirit to support sustainable recovery. His professional interests include substance use, problem gambling and other addictive disorders, counselor education and supervision, domestic violence and abuse/batterer intervention, trauma-informed care, and forensic social work.

Dr. Davis holds multiple clinical credentials, including Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC), International Certified Gambling Counselor (ICGC-II), Board-Approved Clinical Consultant (BACC), and ICADV-certified Domestic Violence Abuse Intervention Program Facilitator. He earned his Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Barry University, Master of Social Work (MSW) from Indiana University, and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Indianapolis, as well as a PhD in Christian Counseling from Louisiana Baptist University. Though Waypost Counseling is a secular organization, Dr. Davis was ordained into ministry in 2009 and is happy to offer Christian counseling upon client request.

An accomplished author and speaker, Dr. Davis has written The Bible and Addiction Recovery and contributed articles to national publications. He has appeared as a clinical expert on Fox, NBC, CBS, WTHR, Sky News, and other media outlets and has been featured in The Indianapolis Star, USA Today, and The New York Daily News. He regularly presents for the Indiana Office of Court Services and has spoken at conferences, universities, churches, courts, probation departments, hospitals, and treatment centers. He has been a keynote speaker at major professional gatherings, including the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling’s 2023 Fall Conference and Mental Health America of Indiana’s 2024 Mental Health Symposium.

Dr. Davis is a dedicated advocate for behavioral health. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Mental Health America of Indiana from 2022 to 2024, as well as three terms as the President of the Indiana Credentialing Association on Addiction and Drug Abuse (ICAADA) between 2016 and 2022, during which he played a crucial role in the creation of ICAADA’s Board-Certified in Problem Gambling (BCPG) credential, recognized statewide for professionals specializing in gambling disorders. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Counseling Association from 2016 to 2021.

His leadership and service have been recognized throughout the state. In 2015, Governor Mike Pence appointed him to Indiana’s Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Council. Later that same year, he was honored as “Outstanding Abuse Intervention Professional of 2015” by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, followed by the University of Indianapolis naming him “Outstanding Community Partner of 2016” the following year.
