Executive Director & Co-Founder
Dr. Eric L. Davis is the Executive Director of Waypost Counseling and a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Social Work. With over 25 years of experience in mental health and addiction treatment, he provides therapy from a holistic perspective that integrates mind, body, and spirit to support sustainable recovery. His professional interests include the treatment of substance use, problem gambling, and other addictive disorders; counselor education and supervision; domestic violence abuse intervention; trauma-informed care; and forensic social work.

Dr. Davis first became known in Indiana as the co-founder and Executive Director of Life Recovery Center, a role he held for 20 years, from the organization’s inception in 2004 until its acquisition by MHAI in 2024. He now brings his latest treatment venture, Waypost Counseling, to Indiana’s behavioral health community, building upon decades of clinical expertise, leadership, and service.

Dr. Davis holds multiple clinical credentials, including Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC), International Certified Gambling Counselor (ICGC-II), Board-Approved Clinical Consultant (BACC), and ICADV-certified Domestic Violence Abuse Intervention Program Facilitator. He earned his Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Barry University, Master of Social Work (MSW) from Indiana University, Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Indianapolis, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Christian Counseling from Louisiana Baptist University. While Waypost Counseling is a secular organization, Dr. Davis was ordained into ministry in 2009 and offers Christian counseling upon client request.

An accomplished author and speaker, Dr. Davis has written The Bible and Addiction Recovery and contributed articles to national publications. He has appeared as a clinical expert on Fox, NBC, CBS, WTHR, Sky News, and other media outlets, and has been featured in The Indianapolis Star, USA Today, and The New York Daily News. He regularly presents for the Indiana Office of Court Services and has spoken at numerous professional conferences, including serving as a keynote speaker at the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling’s 2023 Fall Conference and Mental Health America of Indiana’s 2024 Mental Health Symposium.
A dedicated advocate for behavioral health, Dr. Davis currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Mental Health America of Indiana from 2022 to 2024 and completed three terms as President of the Indiana Credentialing Association on Addiction and Drug Abuse (ICAADA) between 2016 and 2022. During his tenure, he played a key role in the development of ICAADA’s Board-Certified in Problem Gambling (BCPG) credential, now recognized statewide for behavioral health professionals specializing in the treatment of gambling disorder. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Counseling Association from 2016 to 2021.
Dr. Davis’s leadership and service have been widely recognized throughout the years. In 2015, Governor Mike Pence appointed him to Indiana’s Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Council. That same year, he was honored as Outstanding Batterers Intervention Professional of 2015 by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, followed by the Phylis Lan Lin School of Social Work and Counseling at the University of Indianapolis naming him Outstanding Community Partner of 2016.
