Eric L. Davis, DSW, LCSW, LCAC
Executive Director & Co-Founder

Dr. Eric L. Davis is a psychotherapist, executive leader, educator, and clinical strategist with more than 25 years of experience in behavioral health. He serves as Executive Director of Waypost Counseling and as a faculty member at the Indiana University School of Social Work, where he contributes to the education and development of future social work professionals.

Dr. Davis co-founded Life Recovery Center in 2004 and served as its Executive Director for two decades until its acquisition by Mental Health America of Indiana in 2024. Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with court-involved populations, individuals with substance use and gambling disorders, and those participating in certified domestic violence abuse intervention programs. His areas of expertise include addiction treatment, problem gambling, trauma-informed care, forensic social work, and counselor education and supervision.

His clinical philosophy integrates evidence-based practice with a systems-level understanding of human behavior. Drawing from neuroscience, trauma research, behavioral conditioning, and social context, Dr. Davis approaches recovery as both a neurobiological and meaning-centered process. He recognizes that belief systems — cultural, relational, and spiritual — profoundly influence identity, decision-making, and long-term behavioral integrity. His work emphasizes personal responsibility, disciplined growth, and the reconstruction of meaning as essential components of lasting change.

Dr. Davis holds advanced clinical credentials, including Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC), International Certified Gambling Counselor II (ICGC-II), Board-Approved Clinical Consultant in Problem Gambling (BACC), International Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor (ICAADC), and Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). He earned his Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from Barry University, Master of Social Work (MSW) from Indiana University, and Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Indianapolis.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Davis has served in numerous leadership roles within Indiana’s behavioral health community. He previously served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Mental Health America of Indiana and completed three terms as President of the Indiana Credentialing Association on Addiction and Drug Abuse (ICAADA), where he helped develop the Board-Certified in Problem Gambling (BCPG) credential now recognized statewide. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Indiana Council on Problem Gambling and was appointed by the Governor of Indiana to the Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Council.

Dr. Davis regularly provides consultation and professional training for courts, clinicians, and behavioral health organizations. He is the author of The Bible and Addiction Recovery and has served as a clinical expert for national and international media outlets including Fox, NBC, CBS, Sky News, USA Today, and The Indianapolis Star.

In addition to his professional work, Dr. Davis is a musician and writer. He believes that clinical excellence requires intellectual rigor, humility, disciplined self-examination, and a lifelong commitment to growth.
